About The Jon Behind The Site
I’m Jon, I’m 24, happily married and I’m a film buff. I especially enjoy my documentaries.
Since I live in Chile, South America at this point in my life, I have to depend on the internet to get most of my documentaries. You can email me at whatthedoc@gmail/com. I enjoy hearing from you, I’m always open to link exchanges, and I’d like to hear about your favorite documentary (or perhaps your own documentary)!
Favorite Documentary Filmmaker?
One of them would be Michael Moore. This doesn’t mean that I agree with everything he says, but his documentaries are really enjoyable. Roger & Me, Bowling for Columbine, and Sicko would be my favorite of his documentaries.
Also huge fan of Simon Reeve. He is a journalist who has made some really exciting documentary series for BBC. Such as Meet The Stans (he visits Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan), Places That Don’t Exist (unrecognized nations such as Somaliland), Equator (Reeve visits all the countries that touch on the equator line), and Tropic of Capricorn (all the countries on the Tropic of Capricorn line).
Louis Theroux is another favorite. This journalist is best known for his faux-naif interviewing style (essentially he’ll play dumb with his questions, and he really gets alot with a lot sometimes). He has had a few documentary series such as Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends, where he gets to know a marginal subculture such as survivalists, or Nazi skinheads.
Favorite Documentary?
It is impossible to choose a single documentary over the rest. But I consider American Movie to be one of my favorite documentaries. Bowling for Columbine was great too, even though I don’t agree entirely with Michael Moore’s argument in that film.
You can expect this list to grow.
Favorite Mockumentary?
This Is Spinal Tap, of course. Fear of a Black Hat was pretty entertaining as well. Does Borat fit into this category? I think it might.
Favorite Film?
In no particular order after the first film which is my number one favorite film.
One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Black Hawk Down, Cool Hand Luke, The Great Escape, The Matrix, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Departed, Fight Club, Into The Wild,
